Voices of Veterans, Voices of War began when Vietnam era veterans participating in Mosaic mentoring events proposed that the Mosaic's Creative Mentoring process would be helpful to Vets1soldiers returning from current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Older veterans help younger ones find their "civilian feet" again and rejoin their communities as valuable, functioning members.
At the Veterans Writing Project we believe that every veteran has a story. But we know that some of us need a little help telling that story. So we provide no-cost writing seminars and workshops for veterans, service members, and their adult family members.
HVWP started as an outreach program for veterans returning from World War II. Today, as the long-time, respected component of the DVA’s medical center recreation and rehabilitation programs, the project and its magazine regularly impact the lives of veterans as they share personal experiences and innermost thoughts.
