Faculty Guide to Online Library Resources

NMC Faculty's one-stop guide to navigating library resources online

Off-Campus Access for Library Resources

When accessing online library resources from off-campus (or via a non-networked computer on-campus, e.g. a laptop, tablet or phone), you will be prompted to enter your NMC ID and password. Consult this page for more details and troubleshooting help. If you're still having trouble, contact the library or submit a HelpDesk Ticket

How to Create Stable Links to Library Resources

Many library resources require authentication using your NMC login credentials. Because of this, there are a few important steps that must be taken when linking to library resources (e.g. in an assignment or class exercise, or within your Moodle shell). The feature that allows you to create stable links is usually called Permalink or, in some cases Get Link

This box shows examples of the most common cases for your reference. If you need help creating a stable, usable link for your students, please Contact Your Liaison Librarian.

Stable Linking to EBSCO Databases

All EBSCO Databases feature a Permalink tool. You can use this tool to create stable, article-level links that will work for anyone with an NMC login. From a given article page, simply click 'Permalink' on the right-hand side of the page, and a permalink will appear directly above the article title. You can copy and paste this link in its entirety to provide linked access to any NMC user (see screenshot):

'Get Link' in Gale Databases

Gale databases have a similar feature called 'Get Link.' This performs the same function as the Permalink feature in EBSCO. Simply click 'Get Link' in the top right of either an article page or a page of search results (if you want to link to the results of a query). A popup box will appear with a stable link for you to copy and paste elsewhere (e.g. in Moodle):
